At a glance
Box truck dispatch means a dispatcher finds, negotiates and books freight for your straight truck: palletized and partial loads, liftgate and final-mile deliveries, expedited and regional runs. Digital Storming dispatches box truck owner-operators and small fleets, CDL and non-CDL, for a flat 5–12% of each load’s gross. You approve every load, and there is no long-term contract.

Who it is for
Box truck operators we work with
Non-CDL 26 ft owner-operators
Trucks rated at 26,000 lbs GVWR or less, driven without a CDL on local and regional freight.
CDL box trucks
Straight trucks rated 26,001 lbs or more, driven on a Class B CDL, that can take heavier loads.
Small box truck fleets
Two or more trucks whose loads are planned around each other and each driver’s home time.
What is included
What we handle for your box truck
Loads that fit the box
Freight matched to your box length, door, liftgate and payload, so you never arrive at a load that won’t fit.
Rate negotiation
We negotiate every rate, ask for pay for extra stops and liftgate work, and tell you the number before booking.
Stops, partials and the next load
We plan stops and appointments, add a second partial when there is room in the box, and line up the next load early.
Broker calls and paperwork
We are the broker’s contact for stop updates and delivery problems, and keep carrier packets, rate confirmations and load documents in order.
Freight and rates
Box truck freight, and what moves the rate
Box trucks earn on fit and flexibility rather than weight.
What box trucks haul
- Palletized freight and partial loads for distributors and wholesalers
- Liftgate and final-mile deliveries to stores and businesses without a dock
- Furniture, appliances and other bulky, light freight
- Expedited, trade-show and event freight
What makes loads hard to find or price
- Fewer postings than for vans. Much of the freight on load boards is posted for 53 ft trailers, so box truck loads take more searching and more broker calls.
- Paid by the load, not the mile. Short local runs are often a flat rate, so stops, waiting and the drive back matter as much as loaded miles.
- Payload limits. A non-CDL truck is rated at 26,000 lbs GVWR or less, and its own weight comes out of that, so we check load weight before we quote.
- Dock or no dock. No dock means a liftgate, sometimes a pallet jack or inside delivery, and each changes what the load should pay.

How it works
How box truck dispatch works
Step 1: Free consultation
Tell us your box length, door type, GVWR, liftgate and pallet jack, CDL or not, your lanes, home time and the lowest rate you’ll run.
Step 2: Send your documents
Your MC authority, certificate of insurance and W-9. We fill in the carrier packets brokers ask for, with your box size, door and liftgate.
Step 3: Approve your loads
Each load comes to you with the rate, stops, weight and times. Nothing is booked until you say yes.
Step 4: Drive, we handle the rest
You haul; we handle broker updates and load documents, and look for the next load.

Getting started
What you need to start
Documents to send
- Your operating authority (MC) letter and USDOT number
- Certificate of insurance
- W-9
- Your factoring company’s notice of assignment, if you factor
Non-CDL doesn’t mean non-DOT
Across state lines, a box truck rated at 10,001 lbs or more is a commercial motor vehicle: you need a USDOT number and a DOT medical certificate, and the hours-of-service rules apply.
For-hire general freight in a truck that size needs at least $750,000 in liability insurance. A CDL is needed from 26,001 lbs GVWR (Class B).

Questions
Box truck dispatch questions
Do I need a CDL to run a 26 ft box truck?
Only if the truck’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is 26,001 lbs or more. That makes it a Group B heavy straight vehicle, which needs a Class B CDL (49 CFR 383.91). Many 26 ft box trucks are rated at 26,000 lbs or less and are driven without one. We dispatch both and match loads to your truck’s payload.
Do I need my own authority for box truck dispatch?
To haul for brokers across state lines under your own name, yes: a USDOT number and for-hire operating authority (MC). Running without required authority can put the truck out of service (49 CFR 392.9a). If your MC is new, see dispatch for new authority; if you would rather not wait, ask about our lease-on program.
What kind of box truck loads do you look for?
Palletized and partial loads, liftgate and final-mile deliveries, expedited freight and regional runs that fit your box length, door and payload. You see the stops, weight and times before you approve.
How do you judge a local box truck rate?
Local runs are often paid as a flat rate per load rather than per mile. Before we tell you whether a rate is worth taking, we count the stops, the waiting time, any liftgate work and the drive back.
How much does box truck dispatch cost?
The same as all our dispatch: a flat 5–12% of each load’s gross, set by your truck type and carrier profile, with no retainer and no weekly fee. Tell us about your truck and we’ll tell you what we’d charge.
