What is remote staffing?
Remote staffing services recruit employees who will work from home inside the United States. Digital Storming offers them to U.S. businesses, and we don’t supply offshore staff. We source candidates beyond your local area, screen them on live video and flag the steps remote hiring adds, such as remote Form I-9 review and payroll in the employee’s state. It suits small and mid-size teams without a recruiter. Fees follow the role and how wide the search runs, set out in a written quote before work starts.

Remote, offshore or EOR
U.S. remote employee, offshore staff or an employer of record
Three different things are sold as remote staffing. Only the first is what we do.
| Compare | U.S. remote employee | Offshore remote staff | Employer of record (EOR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who employs the person | You, on your own payroll | Usually a provider in the worker’s country | The EOR, under its contract with you |
| Where they live and work | In the United States | Outside the United States | Wherever the EOR operates |
| Rules that apply | Form I-9, and payroll in the state they work from | The labor and tax rules of the worker’s country | Handled by the EOR under that contract |
| What Digital Storming does | We recruit and screen; you hire | We don’t supply offshore staff | We are not an employer of record |
What’s included in our remote staffing services
Recruiting for people you may not meet in person before their first day.
Here’s what you get
A search beyond your area

We source in the states where you can run payroll, so the short list isn’t limited to your commute radius.
Structured video interviews
Every finalist answers the same core questions on live video, which keeps comparisons fair and notes easy to share.
Remote work checks
We try the tools the job uses, such as screen sharing, your chat app or a short written task, and ask how the person plans a day on their own.
Details that line up
We check that the name, work history and references match across every step, and we flag anything that doesn’t.
State steps flagged before the offer
We note the work state of each finalist and list what to confirm with your payroll provider or accountant before you hire.
A first-week plan
We help you plan equipment shipping, logins and the first meetings, so the new hire isn’t waiting on day one.
Remote hiring checklist
A remote hiring checklist, from job post to first week
Use it whether or not you work with us. Where a rule applies, your employment lawyer or payroll provider has the final word.

How a remote staffing quote is worked out
Digital Storming has no price list for remote staffing: the fee depends on the role and how wide the search runs, and you get it in a written quote before any work starts. The quote is based on:
- The role and its seniority
- The states you can hire in
- How wide the search runs
- How soon you need someone to start
How it works
How a remote search works
Step 1: Set the remote rules
Fully remote or hybrid, the states you can hire in, core hours and equipment. These go into the job ad.
Step 2: Source and screen
We search widely, then screen by phone and video for skills and for remote work habits.
Step 3: Video interviews with you
You meet the finalists on camera, with the same scorecard for each one.
Step 4: Offer and remote start
The offer is yours to make. Before the start date, we walk you through the I-9, state payroll and first-week checklist.
Who it is for
Why remote hiring stalls
A remote role brings in more applicants and more unknowns. Other ways to hire are listed on our HR and staffing services page.
Applicants from everywhere
A remote post can draw people from every state. Most aren’t a fit, and sorting them eats your week.Calls that don’t show much
A short video chat tells you how someone talks, not how they work alone on a Tuesday afternoon.A first hire in a new state
Your first employee outside your home state brings payroll and reporting steps you haven’t handled before.Time zones and real hours
You need overlap with your team and customers, and candidates need to know the actual hours before they apply.
Remote Staffing FAQs
Remote Staffing
What do remote staffing services include?
Remote staffing services recruit for jobs done from home, or from a mix of home and office. The service finds candidates beyond your area, screens them for the job and for working on their own, and runs the interviews over video. With Digital Storming, the person you hire becomes your employee; we don’t employ them for you.
Can I check a remote employee’s I-9 documents over video?
Only if you use E-Verify: employers may examine Form I-9 documents over live video only if they take part in E-Verify and are in good standing. USCIS allows remote examination of documents for employers that participate in E-Verify in good standing. You review copies of the documents, then see the same documents with the employee on a live video call, keep clear copies and check the box on Form I-9 showing you used the alternative procedure. If you offer it at a hiring site, you must offer it to everyone there, though you may limit it to remote hires as long as it isn’t used to discriminate. Without E-Verify, plan for the documents to be examined in person.
Do I need to register for payroll in my remote employee’s state?
Usually, yes: plan to set up payroll in the state where your remote employee works. Federal law requires you to report new hires to the state where they work within 20 days, and some states want it sooner. State unemployment insurance laws aim to cover all of one person’s work for one employer under a single state’s law, starting with the state where the work is localized. Income tax withholding differs by state, so your payroll provider or accountant confirms which accounts to open before the first paycheck.
How do you interview remote candidates?
Digital Storming interviews remote candidates on live video with cameras on, using the same core questions for every finalist. We add a short task that matches the job and try the tools the person will use. You get written notes on each finalist before you meet them.
What if I hire remote employees in several states?
Each new state adds setup. For new hire reports, an employer with staff in more than one state can register with HHS as a multistate employer and send every report to one of those states. Other state accounts still follow each state’s own rules. If you’d like to track candidates and hires in one place, we also build applicant trackers and HR CRMs.
Does working from home change employee or contractor status?
Working from home doesn’t change the test. If you direct what the person does and how, the same classification questions apply as for someone in your office. Our temporary and contract staffing page covers the federal tests, and your accountant or employment lawyer makes the call.
Can you recruit people who live outside the U.S.?
No. Digital Storming’s remote staffing covers only employees who live and work in the United States, where Form I-9 and state payroll rules apply. To bring a foreign worker to a job in the U.S., see international recruitment.
How are remote staffing services priced?
Remote searches are priced per role and per type of search. Tell us about the job through the contact form, by phone or by email, and we’ll send a written quote before anything starts.
